Lessons From An Eagle
Lessons From An Eagle
Seven years ago, my world changed irrevocably. In October 2018, after a courageous nine-month battle with cancer, my husband, partner, and Human Equation co-founder, K.P. Waran, took his final flight.
He was a larger-than-life presence—a war correspondent who stared down danger, an award-winning journalist who shaped the nation’s media landscape, and a brilliant mentor who saw potential in people long before they saw it in themselves. When he passed, he left behind an empty space that felt impossible to fill.
But grief, while heavy, is also an incredible teacher.
Lessons From An Eagle is the result of a seven-year journey through love, loss, and transformation. What began as a personal labour of love dedicated to my grandchildren quickly evolved into something broader: a blueprint for navigating life’s unexpected turns with grace and unshakeable optimism.
The principles within these pages are not abstract theories. They are the exact tenets of resilience, clear communication, and human potential that Waran lived by, and they form the very DNA of the frameworks we teach at Human Equation today. I invite you to step into his world, look through the eyes of the eagle, and find your own path through the storms.
- The Life of a Maverick
Honoring K.P. Waran
Before he was a foundational pillar of Human Equation, K.P. Waran lived a life defined by truth, courage, and an untamed spirit.
As a seasoned journalist, Waran traveled to global conflict zones, reporting from the frontlines to bring unfiltered reality to the public. His experiences shaped a deep understanding of human resilience under absolute crisis.
Waran spent over a quarter of a century at the New Straits Times, rising to the position of Executive Editor. He managed complex newsrooms, spearheaded investigative journalism, and directly mentored an entire generation of Malaysian media leaders.
Bringing his deep understanding of human behavioral dynamics, narrative strategy, and leadership from the newsroom into the corporate sector, Waran co-founded Human Equation alongside Sheila, establishing our core focus on authentic people development.
